What is CranioSacral Therapy?
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on treatment that releases restrictions within the deepest layers of fascia in the body to help reduce pain, relieve dysfunction, and improve whole-body health and wellbeing. By facilitating the body’s natural and innate healing processes, CranioSacral therapy encourages the body to come out of a state of fight-or-flight mode within the nervous system and return to homeostasis.
CST was pioneered and developed by John E. Upledger after extensive scientific studies from 1975 to 1983 at Michigan State University. The gentle approach evaluates and enhances the craniosacral system, which is comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.
Is CranioSacral right for me?
A session of CST is very gentle, done fully clothed, and is an excellent way to soothe the nervous system. A session usually lasts about 50 minutes, and most people feel very calm and may even fall asleep during the treatment. Tingling and heat are commonly felt as the therapist uses light touch and specific holds on the head and torso to release restrictions within the body’s deepest layers of connective tissue and increase the vitality of the central nervous system.
CranioSacral work is ideal for anyone who wishes to relax, calm their nervous system, and find relief from stress, chronic pain, concussions, headaches, neck and back pain, vertigo, and more.
